What girl doesn’t want to marry her childhood sweetheart on Lake Como? Annabel and Josh did just that, when they tied the knot in the library of a 17th century palace. The photographer didn’t speak a word of English, the food was catered by a Michelin Star Chef, and the bride wore a white lace Zimmermann dress – this would have to be one of the most beautiful destination weddings we’ve seen!
How did you both meet, and what is your engagement story?
Josh and I went to Kindergarten together so we have known each other for 23 years! I actually told his mother that I wanted to marry him when I was 3 (I am a woman of my word). He proposed to me in bed one Tuesday evening over noodles and a Bear Grylls episode. It was ‘us’ and it was perfect.
Where did you have your ceremony and reception?
We were married in an old Library in Bellagio, Lake Como, Italy. Our reception was then held at Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni (which is a 17th century palace I might add!)
Why did you choose your venue?
Josh has an Italian heritage and his Nonna had not visited her family for over 50 years so that was a big factor in our decision. At the end of the day, we simply wanted a small ceremony in a dream location and you can’t get more beautiful or romantic than Italy!
What was your favourite moment from the day?
After the ceremony, we walked with our family through the town of Lake Como and all the locals came out to wish us well. It was a beautiful and unplanned moment!
What advice do you have for other brides?
Weddings often turn into what everyone else wants – this is your one day to be selfish as a couple. Do what suits you best and everyone else will enjoy themselves regardless.
Who designed your dress and why did you choose it?
I purchased my dress one week after getting engaged! It was a simple, lace cocktail dress from Zimmermann. I didn’t realize it was my wedding dress at the time (I bought it as an engagement dress) but loved it so much I kept it for my wedding day.
Where were your bridesmaid dresses from?
I didn’t have bridesmaids! My sisters (unofficial bridesmaids) wore Wayne Cooper and Zimmermann.
Who made up your dream team?
Due to the language and time barrier, I hired Sara Portello of Exclusive Weddings Italy to plan our ceremony and reception. Michelin Star Chef, Ettore Bocchia, of Mistral Restaurant catered our event. We worked with Luca from Marco Ficili Photography and he was fantastic. He didn’t speak a word of English yet managed to integrate into our family seamlessly and capture some beautiful moments.
