A blush pink wedding dress, a french style chateau and an intimate gathering of family and friends, Adam and Claire’s winter wedding has all that and more. Nat McComas was behind the camera to catch every moment of Claire and Adam’s day (including the hardy dose of dancing!), honing in on their love for each other.
We’re handing it over to Claire to fill us in on how their dream day was brought to life.
How we met and how he popped the question…
We met at a girlfriend’s Australia Day party. She’d been trying to set us up for ages, but before she could, we got talking and were on our first date the very next night!
Adam wanted our engagement to be a total surprise, so he pretended he was taking me camping for the weekend. I am not a camping girl, so when we arrived at a beautiful cabin at the bottom of Mt Warning, I was more than a little pleased, but still didn’t suspect. It turns out, Adam was in cahoots with the owner of the cabin and had set up candles, roses and a private dinner. I walked up the driveway, completely oblivious, opened the door and saw the amazing set up, then turned around to find Adam on bended knee. I don’t even think I said ‘yes’ – I’m pretty sure I screamed and said ‘are you serious?!’
Why we chose our venue…
Our ceremony and reception was held at the utterly stunning Deux Belettes in the Byron Hinterland. We had a really small wedding, only 40 people, so set up one long table under the covered archway on the property.
I took one look at it and fell in love! Actually, I fell in love driving up the driveway. I got goosebumps and knew it was the place I’d get married. I’d always wanted a destination wedding, and Deux Belettes felt like we were in the middle of France.
My dream dress…
My dress was a Lisa Ho Grecian style dress in a really soft pink. The dress wasn’t my thing, I was more concerned with the stationery! I had a minor freak out in the lead up to the wedding that the dress wouldn’t be ‘bridal-y’ enough, but paired with an amazing pink ostrich feather wrap from Babushka Ballerina and a sparkly Dannijo necklace, I needn’t have worried!
Natalie McComas was my photographer and she was originally recommended by Sharon at Deux Belettes. Her style is really documentary, nothing cheesy wedding, and I absolutely adored her. She captured so many amazing moments and I didn’t even know she was there most of the time! I loved loved loved the photos I got back from her and still cry every time I see them! I met with Natalie before the wedding and was so glad I did, it really helped me get a feel for the sort of photographer she was, and I loved how comfortable she made Adam and I feel.
The amazing Simon from Eat Drink did all the catering. We had a family feasting menu, which meant that instead of the typical alternate drop, we had 7 courses of family style food, like Bangalow roast pork, which was carved by the men in the family. Although I don’t remember eating a thing, everyone raved about the food!
My dream team…
My dream team included the stunning Elise from Elyssium Blooms, who was running around on the day doing waaaay more than the florals! She helped all the other vendors set everything up, and I didn’t even know she was doing it.
Leah from Wedding Hair by Leah made everyone look absolutely stunning and she was a real voice of reason when I was starting to get a bit panicky.
Sarah from Luxe Makeup, I can’t recommend highly enough. She made me feel so stunning on the day, and I trusted her completely.
DJ Pip kept everyone on the dance floor the entire time. I wanted my wedding to be a party with my nearest and dearest, and even my in laws were up and bopping.
My favourite memory…
Seeing Adam standing at the alter. I was so nervous, but seeing him just put the biggest smile on my face. I loved saying my vows, loved exchanging rings and the ring warming ceremony that involved our friends and family, and I loved dancing the night away. Every moment was amazing and went all too fast.
My advice for other brides…
It’s so cliché, but soak up every moment, because it will go so fast. Also, have an amazing team around you, because they’ll make everything so easy.
