We previously featured the chic and stylish wedding of Kellie & Sandy on The Ever After Story and when we heard that the lovers had jetted off to NYC after their swoon-worthy nuptials we had to get Kellie’s insider tips on honeymooning in NYC. Kellie’s here to tell you all about where to stay, what to eat and things to do to help you unwind from wedding planning.
Where we stayed
We stayed at The Standard High Line and Gansevoort. We loved both for their typical NYC vibe and amazing location in the heart of the Meatpacking District but The Standard’s floor to ceiling views and uber cool party vibe really took the cake. You don’t even need to leave your hotel to feel part of the NYC celebrity crowd with its famous bars and choice of eateries.
(You may recall the name of the hotel because it’s where Solange attacked Jay-Z in a lift on their way out of a Met Ball after party!)
Our favourite spots to eat
At the top of The Standard is an aptly named bar called The Top Of The Standard. Its views are some of the best in the city and the live jazz music really sets the scene for a romantic interlude.
We had the most amazing meal ever and we still talk about it months later! It wasn’t big but boy it hit the taste buds…wagu beef skewers, crab rice paper rolls and a gold leaf cake for dessert. Oh, and the cocktails were pretty impressive too. You don’t need to be a hotel guest to enjoy the bar, but you definitely need to book ahead.
On our last evening we dined at Buddakan…it oozes NYC style. The light, asian-inspired menu was also a welcome treat after a few weeks of indulgence.
What we did to help us unwind from wedding planning
It wouldn’t have been a New York holiday without a lot of shopping and that certainly helped me unwind! But aside from that, New York was the perfect city to just stroll and take it all in. After a year of wedding planning, it was so refreshing to just walk hand in hand through central park, stop for a glass of wine at a bar or do a fun activity together. Given our honeymoon was in November, we rugged up against the winter chill which made it even more cosy and romantic.
I would also suggest a sizeable dose of bubble baths, chilled champagne and breakfast in bed will help newlyweds relax too!
Must do activity for honeymooners.
A helicopter ride over the city is a must-do! We booked with a company called HeliNY and words can’t describe how beautiful a bird’s eye view of the city is at dusk.
